Serbia's Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic met on Thursday with CoE Director of Education, Youth and Sport Gabriela Battaini-Dragoni. They discussed proposed changes to the Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on Spectator Violence and Misbehavior at Sports Events. Belgrade to host conference on match fixing "Violence is a common problem in all of Europe, which is why the French minister of sports and I had launched a joint initiative to change the current Convention," Samardzic-Markovic told a news conference at the Palace of Serbia. She said Belgrade would host "a first-of-its-kind conference dedicated to the problem of match fixing and illegal betting." "The problem of match fixing is still not as pronounced in Serbia as it is in the rest of Europe. This is why we decided to host the conference as a form of prevention," Samardzic-Markovic pointed out. She said the event would be dubbed "The Belgrade Process." "Belgrade will play a historic role as the host of this important gathering, which will focus on a problem plaguing global sports," Samardzic-Markovic said. The minister of youth and sport will also take part in the next European Women and Sport Conference, which starts September 15 in London. Snezana Samardzic-Markovic (Tanjug, file)
