Northern Kosovo Serbs are fighting and I believe they will win some independence, but it is a small, symbolic part of Kosovo, said Serbian Patriarch Irinej. He said he never supported the of Kosovo partition, adding that much more needed to be done in order to be able to keep the entire Kosovo as a part of Serbia. “Serbs fight for some sort of independence” “People in Kosovo expect help and raising of a large metal cross, even though without anyone’s knowledge, shows that that they expect, hope for any help, including the divine and spiritual one,” the patriarch pointed out. He explained out that burned down and destroyed Serbian monasteries and churches in Kosovo spoke the best of one people’s tragedy and added that Kosovo was his personal wound. “Kosovo is my personal and big wound. I know how it was back in 1948 when I left for school in Prizren. Everything is different now. Both in Prizren and in every other place there are broken down walls of churches, burnt down holy places….,” Irinej told daily Politika. Pointing out that “the Seminary has been robbed, the Holy Virgin of Ljevis Church, the pearl of not only our historical and cultural but also world heritage is in pitiful condition, with scratched and damaged 13th century frescoes”, the patriarch said that it all “speaks of one people’s tragedy, the biggest since the Battle of Kosovo”. “Today in Djakovica, Prizren, Urosevac or Pec, that was the symbol of Serbian culture with the Patriarchate, only several elderly people live, who cannot even get out of their houses and backyards,” the SPC patriarch was quoted as saying.
