Belgrade negotiating team head Borislav Stefanovic stated on Saturday that great majority of citizens in north Kosovo supported the interim agreement with KFOR. Stefanovic told journalists that he would confer with municipal presidents and Kosovska Mitrovica district head later during the day, adding that their responsibility in the implementation of the interim agreement was great. “Most K. Serbs back interim agreement” “We will help them reach the right and adequate decision which will preserve the unity between citizens and the state,” he stressed. “It is certain that this agreement is good given the circumstances,” Stefanovic underlined, adding that the state backed the agreement since it secured peace and preserved the current situation at the administrative crossings. “Pristina's attempt to establish Kosovo institutions at these crossings failed,” he underlined. “The problem of transfer of goods will be resolved through a dialogue with Pristina,” the Belgrade team chief announced. Stefanovic urged the Serbian public to turn a deaf ear to Pristina's media speculations about the interim agreement. He reiterated that there would be no Albanian officials, members of the special police unit ROSU or any symbols of the so-called state of Kosovo in the north, and that the transport of goods would be allowed. “It is crucial that we have prevented any unilateral attempt of change of the situation in the field, violence, or jeopardy of the citizens' lives,” Stefanovic pointed out, adding that the representatives of the Serbian government were satisfied. He said that the implementation of the agreement would not be simple since the emotions were still intense, problems were huge, and the trust was impaired by Pristina's attempt of seizure of north Kosovo. At the same time, he expressed belief that Serbs would be wise enough to preserve their unity and leave space for Serbia to continue to fight for the interests of its citizens in north Kosovo. “A group of people at the barricade in the village of Rudare that reacted negatively to the agreement had various motives for that,” he explained. “However, they do not represent great majority of citizens who are in favor of the agreement,” Stefanovic said, adding that there should be no disagreement among the citizens. “I am certain that the citizens will not go against their state,” the Belgrade team head concluded.
