Minister: U.S. doesn’t blame Serbia

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac stated on Friday evening that for the first time the U.S. did not blame Serbia for an incident in Kosovo.

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac stated on Friday evening that for the first time the U.S. did not blame Serbia for an incident in Kosovo. “This is the first time, as far as I concluded from the talks with congressmen, that Serbia is not accused of an incident, and that is very important because it proves that our image is different from the one we had in the past,” the defense minister told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). Minister: U.S. doesn’t blame Serbia He added that all U.S. officials that he had met with expressed support to peaceful resolution of the Kosovo crisis, and added that this was the most important message that he could get. Sutanovac believes that now several days after the incidents in Kosovo the tension has eased and that all sides are able to think straight. He added that it was necessary to pay more attention to the Kosovo issue and discuss it seriously. “I do not expect that the U.S. will change its policy towards Kosovo, but I expect that they will contribute to the resolution of the Kosovo crisis at the negotiating table,” Sutanovac stressed. He is on a several-day working visit to the U.S., during which he will confer with U.S. officials on the political and security situation in Kosovo and enhancement of defense cooperation between Serbia and the U.S. The Serbian defense minister will confer with representatives of the U.S. Defense Ministry, State Department, Congress, the Senate and the U.S. National Guard Bureau. During his stay in the U.S., Sutanovac will deliver a lecture at the U.S. Atlantic Council, where he will speak about reforms in Serbia and the security sector, as well as the key political issues in the region.
