The UN Security Council is expected to hold consultations behind closed doors on Thursday afternoon and debate the current situation in Kosovo. "The Security Council has decided to hold consultations behind closed doors on July 28, when the UN Secretariat will brief the council member countries on the current situation in Kosovo," Beta news agency learned in the German permanent mission with the UN Germany is currently presiding over the council. UN Security Council to convene on Kosovo The meeting will be held only by the 15 Security Council members, while it is still unclear if Serbian FM Vuk Jeremic will be allowed to attend, said a representative of Germany. Jeremic will meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York late on Thursday local time. Previously, UN spokesperson Eri Kaneko said she was "not sure whether Jeremic would be in the position to address" the consultations, but that it was "possible that he will take floor at an open session after that". The council members will today decide whether such a session will be scheduled at all. Vuk Jeremic last night could not board the plane in London on his way to New York for unspecified "technical reasons". "Some members still oppose letting Serbia address the council. We are negotiating intensively, mostly with the members who support us, but others as well, in order to resolve this problem in a positive way," Jeremic stated earlier on Thursday. Two countries have expressed strong disagreement with Serbia's request to hold an urgent meeting of the Council and discuss the latest developments in Kosovo, explaining that there was "no need for such a thing". Jeremic did not name those countries. "According to what we have learned, there were even threats of a veto," Jeremic said late on Wednesday. "It is extremely important to condemn the attempt to alter the situation in Kosovo by using force," he stressed. Serbia requested a urgent session of the Security Council after the government in Pristina sent its police units to take over administrative line checkpoints in the Serb-dominated north.
