Milutin Mrkonjic says that if Slobodan Milosevic were alive, the Socialist Party of Serbia would still have formed a coalition with the Democrats and G17 Plus. The infrastructure minister and SPS official was speaking as the party, founded and led until his death by Milosevic, marked its 21st anniversary. "Milosevic would be in coalition with Democrats" "I am certain of that. Many of the new things we have introduced since his death were along the lines of his ideas. Therefore, Slobodan Milosevic was the creator and ideologist of the current coalition. Slobodan Milosevic would probably be even more productive," Mrkonjic told the Belgrade-based Blic daily. He stated that the coalition with the democrats was "good for the most part," adding that he was pleased, "but not entirely". When asked about the problem, Mrkonjic responded it was the "persecution of the Milosevic family", adding that it was "shameful". On Sunday, party leader and Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic addressed a gathering in Belgrade to say that the Socialists supported Serbia's bid to join the EU, and become a country of social justice, expressing his expectation that "with such ideas, the party would achieve even better results in the forthcoming elections". The ceremony was, among others, attended by PM Mirko Cvetkovic and U.S. Ambassador in Belgrade Mary Warlick. SPS marks the anniversary (Tanjug)
