European Commission (EC) unanimously agrees that early parliamentary elections in Serbia should not be called. Daily Danas has learned that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has also been informed about the EC’s stand. Daily: EC against early elections Sources close to EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule have confirmed the information to the daily. It is currently not known whether the EC will make an official statement regarding the issue or not. “It’s clear. The Commission believes that calling elections in Serbia by the end of the year would only harm reform processes and country’s stability, which would jeopardize, among other things, the EU candidacy bid. It is a joint position of the Commission and people from the European Parliament, that Belgrade is familiar with, especially representatives of the Progressives. We only have to decide whether we will make a public announcement with the message and who would sign it,” Fule told his closest associates on Wednesday afternoon, the daily reported.
