Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has refused to comment on the guilty verdicts in the Hague case against three former Croatian generals. He stated that his opinion on Croatia's 1995 Operation Storm, aimed against the country's Serb areas, was given in 2008. FM refuses to comment on Croat war crimes generals "It caused strong reactions then. I wouldn't revisit it now," Jeremic said in Belgrade on Sunday. In May 2008, the foreign minister said Croatia's officials "reacted completely inappropriately" to the fact that almost 250,000 Serbs who lived in Croatia before Operation Storm were no longer in that country. "It is more than clear that ethnic cleansing has been performed when 250,000 people of one ethnicity live somewhere, while after a military operation they are no longer there," Jeremic said at the time. Before making that comment, the foreign minister spoke in Zagreb to accuse Croatia of being responsible of ethnically cleansing Serbs, and expressed his regret that Croatia had decided to recognize Kosovo. Former Coatian Army General Ante Gotovina was sentenced on Friday to 24 years in prison, while former Croatian Police General Mladen Markac was sent to jail for 18 years. They were found guilty of involvement in a joint criminal enterprise whose aim - during and after Operation Storm in August 1995 - was to forcefully and permanently remove the Serb population from Croatia.
