Italy's Foreign Minister Franco Frattini met with his Serbian colleague Vuk Jeremic in Belgrade on Monday to start off his one-day visit to Serbia. The ministers expressed their expectation that Serbia will get EU candidate status by the end of this year and that a date will be set for starting negotiations. Italian, Serbian FMs meet in Belgrade At a joint press conference, the ministers referred to the report of Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty on human organ trafficking in Kosovo and urged a serious and independent international investigation. They also announced the holding of an Italian-Serbian summit in May in Belgrade. Frattini will meet with President Boris Tadic and Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic later in the afternoon. The main topics for the talks are going to be Serbia's EU integration, Italy's assistance in the process and regional cooperation. Italy was one of the first EU countries to ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Serbia. The Italian government was also one of the main supporters of the visa liberalization with Serbia. The two countries have achieved significant progress in their relations over the past few years, and a summit was held in Rome November 2009, which brought together many of their top officials and companies.
