NGOs encourage K. Serbs to vote

Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia and Biljana Kovacevic-Vuco Foundation have launched a campaign encouraging Kosovo Serbs to vote in the elections. Representatives of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia have continued to encourage Kosovo Serbs to go to the polls during their visit to municipality of Gnjilane. NGOs encourage K. Serbs to vote Speaking on behalf of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights Slavija Stanojevic said that she was pleasantly surprised by an encouraging process among the residents of the Serbian enclaves in the municipality of Gnjilane regarding the elections in Kosovo. The local residents also do not hesitate to speak positively about taking part in the elections. They believe, however, that the campaign should have started earlier. “It would have been better if they had started earlier but there was no one to launch the campaign,” one of the locals stressed. Eight Serbian political parties from central and southern Kosovo have applied to participate in the elections. According to the announcements, Serbs from the north will continue the boycott which is a part of a general policy of not recognizing Pristina after unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence.
