EU mission in Kosovo has new chief

Xavier Bout de Marnhac took over on Friday as the new head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in Kosovo. Marnhac is taking over from compatriot and fellow general Yves de Kermabon, who served from February 2008, said the EU mission in Kosovo. EU mission in Kosovo has new chief "We are moving to the next phase of the work of EULEX," Marnhac said. "Under its first mandate and under the excellent leadership of Yves de Kermabon, the mission has firmly established itself and is fully exercising its core mandate," he added. "My principal concerns will be to reestablish the rule of law in northern Kosovo and to continue the fight against corruption and organized crime. I also look forward to further encourage and support the local rule of law institutions in moving towards European standards under the principle of local ownership," Marnhac underscored. The EULEX statement adds that Marnhac's appointment is for one year and renewable. The Frenchman previously commanded the NATO-led troops, KFOR, from 2007 until 2008.
