Serb enclaves south of the Ibar River are still without mobile and fixed phone services, as Pristina authorities halted the disabling of Telekom property. The push to disable Telekom Srbija (Telecom Serbia) transmitters and base stations started on Sunday and continued on Monday, but the company said it was halted today. Destruction of Telekom property halted Telekom said that it would find a solution to restore service to Serbs south of the river, while it would send it workers to guard its property in the majority-Serb north that has not been targeted. Meanwhile, a Pristina-based Kosovo body in charge of telecommunucations said that efforts of illegal operators and those who support them would not be successful. The Regulatory Agency for Telecommunications in Kosovo (RAT) also said that the shutting down of telephony transmitters was not directed against any authority or state. Telekom Srbija previously rejected accusations that it operated illegally, and said its presence in the province was withing UNSCR 1244. Beta news agency reported that Serbs in northern Kosovo, where they are majority, warned they would prevent the destruction of equipment in their area. Kosovo Albanian authorities said that the aim of severing phone cables for the Serb areas was to introduce a new, virtual operator in those areas. Belgrade says that the move deepens divisions between Belgrade and Pristina ahead of announced talks. Currently it is possible to communicate only using mobile phones of the Kosovo-based operators. Telekom said that it would find a solution to restore service to Serbs south of the river, while it would send it workers to guard its property in the majority-Serb north that has not been targeted.
