A spokeswoman for the ruling Democrats says it would be "legitimate but unrealistic" to expect Boris Tadic to have a counter candidate in party elections. Tadic, who is also Serbia's president, is expected to be reelected as the party leader, said Jelena Trivan. "No better president, no likely competition" “Given that we know that there is no better president for Serbia and that Boris Tadic is formally and informally the leader in the region, it is unrealistic to expect that there is someone within DS who does not share the opinion and believes to be better than him,” Trivan said in an interview for Tanjug. "To expect a counter candidate is legitimate, but unrealistic and I believe that Boris Tadic will be the DS president both in this and the next mandate," Trivan pointed out. As for the number of DS deputy presidents, Trivan underlined that it was "logical" that such a great interest in the elections within DS exists, since, as she put it, the DS officials and the party's policy have determined the policy of the Republic of Serbia. She said that the issue of DS deputy presidents has not been discussed yet, adding that according to the Statute, the elections within the party have to be and will be held by the end of the year. "It is legitimate and open for anyone to candidate for the position of a deputy president, Trivan said," adding that many of the information released these days on the elections within DS are untrue. “We have no inter-party problems, divisions, fractions or problems with internal fight over officials' seats,” she said and underscored that those, who have led DS so far, will most probably receive mandate to stay on the positions, since they have performed their duties well and the DS has doubled the number of its supporters by each elections.
