Tomislav Nikolic said that he would try to write a resolution for Kosovo with EU officials in order to ensure a majority before the UN General Assembly for it. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) president said that the “resolution must be passed, and not just be presented in Serbia.” SNS: Majority in UN GA vital for Serbia Asked what kind of outcome he expects before the UN General Assembly, he said he “hopes to God that Serbia will have a majority for the resolution.” “I think that we have that majority in the minds of the people and officials that represent the people in the UN GA, but not in voting, if we have an open opposition from the U.S., EU and Japan, we cannot secure a majority for that resolution,” Nikolic said. He said that no one has the right to say, in the name of Serbia, that “we did not want to write a resolution with them, we do not agree and it is impossible to write.” They can say “we tried to write it and it is impossible to write,” he said. Nikolic said that a national consensus is needed regarding Kosovo. “We must understand that some kind of government has been stabilized in Kosovo, but that we can never recognize that it has become a country. We have to preserve our legal sovereignty over the four municipalities in northern Kosovo by all means necessary. We must talk to officials of the big powers, to warn them that Albanians cannot take them over, or we will really be entering a strong conflict with them, a conflict that the SNS would support,” Nikolic said. He said that the state must defend northern Kosovo and that SNS would help. “I said that in the parliament, I said that loudly and clearly. We obviously can no longer impose taxes in Kosovo, we can no longer implement our laws, our constitution, I admit all of that. But it is still our territory, until a person comes along and says that it is no longer ours and signs this as an officially elected representative. That would also go to the Constitutional Court, because the Serbian Constitution defines Kosovo as a part of the territory of Serbia,” he said. Tomislav Nikolic (FoNet)
