Opposition New Serbia (NS) MPs have requested the resignation of Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic, of the ruling G17 Plus party. The request came this Thursday in Belgrade, after yesterday's arrest of Director of the Oncology and Radiology Institute of Serbia Nenad Borojevic. Parties want minister sacked in wake of scandal Borojevic and six others are suspected of accepting and giving bribes in the amount of about EUR 1mn, in a corruption case that also involves pharmaceutical companies, and has seen doctors administer unnecessarily high dosages of cancer medication to patients in order to increase the sales of cytostatics, according to the investigation. The NS MPs today in parliament asked the state authorities to expand the indictment against the suspects, stating that they should have to be accused of “organized murder” - considering the consequences that high doses of the in question medication can have on patients. “Everyone is upset after the arrest of the Oncology Institute doctors. An indictment for organized murder must be raised here, and the health minister should resign,” said NS MP Zlata Djeric. Opposition Serb Radicals (SRS) and Liberal-Democrats (LDP) joined New Serbia in this request today.
