Sweden is ready to soon ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia, says Sweden's ambassador. He however explained that this would happen if the document gets unblocked at a session of the European Union Council of Ministers scheduled for June. “Sweden is ready to ratify SAA” “We will be fast. I cannot be more specific because we have elections in September and I would not like to give promises on behalf of a future government, but ratification will not be a problem, it will be done quickly,” utgoing Swedish Ambassador to Serbia Krister Bringeus told B92 TV on Monday evening in Belgrade. Serbia should gain the status of a candidate country, it is a clear matter to us, but it has to be a decision that all 27 member states of the European Union would agree on,” said the Swedish Ambassador. Serbia's progress in gaining the candidate status depends solely on Serbia, said Bringeus. Membership in the Union is a process that implies reforms, creation of a new society, achievement of West European values and standards, said Bringeus, adding that the process also includes combating corruption, improving environmental protection, strengthening of the rule of law and reform of the school system. Ambassador Bringeus, whose next post will be in Afghanistan, said that his country does not request Serbia to recognize Kosovo as a condition for its accession in the EU, but he pointed out that unless issues with neighbors are resolved, European integrations will not be possible to get completed.
