Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac has stated in Zagreb that a "historic agreement" will be signed in June between Serbian and Croatian militaries. The deal would put behind "the dark past" and should serve as a lesson on how to cooperate in the future, he was quoted as saying. Defense minister on “historic agreement” "After all the wars, the Serbian and Croatian armies will bilaterally meet for the first time in order to sign an agreement on cooperation in the area of defense. This is a historic agreement," Sutanovac said in an interview for Belgrade-based weekly NIN. He said that Croatia is the last country in the region with which Serbia is signing such an agreement, adding that “Croatia still has certain traumas from the 1990's which are even bigger than Serbia's traumas”. When asked what exactly will be signed and what type of cooperation the agreement envisages, Sutanovac answered that it includes "the possibility of joint exercise, training, education, exchange of experience and information, etc". "Croatia has professionalized its army, it has been a member of Partnership for Peace for a while now, it has joined the NATO and it participates in a large number of peace-keeping missions, which is the future of the Serbian Army as well," Sutanovac underscored.
