The draft of the resolution for condemning the Srebrenica crimes submitted by 114 ruling coalition MPs entered parliamentary procedures on Saturday. The resolution was proposed by 114 MPs from For a European Serbia, G17 plus, PUPS and the Socialist Party of Serbia parties. Srebrenica resolution in parliamentary procedures The resolution states that the Serbian parliament strongly condemns the crimes committed against the Bosniak people in Srebrenica in July 1995, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice, and expects that other countries of the former Yugoslavia will in the same way condemn crimes committed against Serbs. It states that the parliament condemns all societal and political processes and indicators that led to the formation of the belief that national goals can be achieved through the use of armed force and physical violence against other ethnicities and religions. The resolution also states “condolences and apologies” for the families of victims, because all measures were not taken to stop the tragedy from happening. It is stated that the parliament offers support to the work of state institutions responsible for processing war crimes and for successfully ending cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, adding that is especially important for Ratko Mladic to be arrested and extradited to The Hague. All sides that were in conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina and other countries of the former Yugoslavia are called on to continue the process of reconciliation and improving conditions for a united life based on equality between nations and the full respect of human and minority rights and freedoms, to do everything to make sure that such crimes are not repeated, the resolution adds. “The parliament expects that the highest institutions of other countries on the territory of the former Yugoslavia will in this way condemn crimes committed against Serbs and state their condolences and apologies to the families of Serbian victims,” the draft states. The authors of the resolution also call on the preamble of the constitution in which human life and dignity are inviolable, on norms of universal declarations of the United Nations on human rights and other international acts, with the goal of securing lasting peace and stability in the Western Balkans and the improvement of friendly relations between countries of the former Yugoslavia. Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said on Wednesday that once the draft is given to the MP group officials it “would be good for MP groups in the coming seven days to offer suggestions, so that the parliamentary session for this issue would be called for late March or early April, after the Easter holiday.”
