Serbia's first democratic prime minister and reformer Zoran Djindjic marked Serbia's path leading to the EU. He strongly believed that it was his generation that was given the task to reconcile the isolated and devastated Serbia with the rest of the world, both with the West and the East, Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said on Friday. "Djindjic wanted Serbia reconciled with West and East" "Unlike everyone else, Zoran Djindjic recognized the historic chance Serbia was given to realize its long-standing dream of becoming a politically stable country with efficient institutions, solid infrastructure, modern school system and fast-developing economy," Cvetkovic said during a ceremony at the National Library of Serbia, where a new edition of Zoran Djindjic's book "Yugoslavia as an Unfinished State" was presented. Addressing the those gathered on the occasion, among whom Djindjic's widow Ruzica and son Luka, the Serbian prime minister underlined that his predecessor had strived for "new social consensus, putting aside of all disputes and conflicts, rolling up of sleeves and bringing things in order." "The best way in which we can repay Zoran Djindjic for all that he did is to make this program come true. Instead of isolating Serbia, he guided it in the direction of international integrations," said Cvetkovic. "The goals are the same today. His deeds create the corridor that leads Serbia towards Europe, a concept which gives us strength to endure on the path of resolving the problems we have without violence and of speeding up the process of economic development. This is the spiritual legacy from which both we and the many generations to come will drain the energy we need to create the Serbia which so many generations have been dreaming of," Cvetkovic underscored. The promotion ceremony at the National Library of Serbia was also attended by ministers from Cvetkovic's cabinet, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, President of the DS Political Council Dragoljub Micunovic, Serbian Deputy Parliament Speaker Gordana Comic, President of the Supreme Court of Serbia Natasa Mesarevic and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
