A delegation of U.S. senators, including George Voinovich [R-OH] and Jeanne Shaheen [D-NH], visited Belgrade on Thursday. They met with President Boris Tadic, and called for a partnership between Serbia and the U.S., the president's press service has announced. U.S. delegation visits Belgrade Stressing that Serbia wants a partnership with the U.S., Tadic said that the two countries' security services are already cooperating closely in fighting organized crime, which is one of Serbia's top priorities for 2010. Tadic said that Serbia's goal is EU membership, and reminded that an application for full-fledged membership in the Union has been submitted. With regards to Kosovo, Tadic said that the issue should be solved before the International Court of Justice, and added that Serbia would never recognize Kosovo's illegally declared independence, defending its integrity by peaceful, legal, and diplomatic means. Senators Voinovich and Shaheen emphasized that in the past few years Serbia has achieved significant and visible progress, and said that the stability of the Western Balkans was of crucial importance not only to the EU, but to the entire world. The U.S. delegation also spoke with Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.
