It is increasingly likely that next year's budget will not be passed in parliament by the legal deadline of December 15. Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said on Saturday that the 2010 budget will be adopted by December 20. Budget adoption could miss deadline According to the law, the government must adopt the budget by November 1 and the parliament must confirm it by December 15. Government officials said that it is possible that regulations will be adopted for those responsible for such tardiness in the future to have to face some kind of consequences. On the other side, opposition officials said that the tardiness will further affect the poor business climate in Serbia and the lack of foreign investors. The budget has been adopted late for several years in a row already, sometimes only days before the New Year.
