Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen will visit Belgrade on December 16, B92 has learned. The Netherlands is opposed to the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Serbia and the European Union before the remaining two Hague fugitives have been extradited. Some ten days ago, the Dutch Foreign Ministry stated that the SAA could be unfrozen if Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz said in his new report that Serbia was doing everything within its power to arrest Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic. Verhagen’s spokesman Bart Rijs told Beta news agency that the goal of the visit would be “promotion of trade relations” between the two countries, “removal of visa restrictions” for the citizens of Serbia and “improving of partnership in other areas”. The foreign ministers of the Netherlands and Serbia agreed during their last meeting in late September ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York that it was necessary to improve the cooperation, Rijs pointed out. He said that Verhagen "would not speak to the Serbian officials about Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague Tribunal".
