“28 pct of K. Serbs to participate in elections”
8 November 2009 | 09:35 | Source: FoNet
ČAGLAVICA -- Non-governmental organization Kontakt’s surveys show that 28 percent of the Kosovo Serb population will participate in the coming local elections.

A member of the NGO’s Kosovo branch, Fatmir Sheholli, said that the survey was conducted in Gračanica, adding that 125 persons were questioned.

According to the research, 28 percent of Kosovo Serbs said that they would participate, while 40 percent are undecided and 32 are against participation.

Deputy International Civilian Representative in Kosovo Fletcher Burton said that all communities in Kosovo must realize that these elections are an important historical opportunity, KIM radio stated.

A candidate for the mayoral office in Gračanica, Momčilo Trajković, said that the most important reason for participation in the elections is taking over the local self-administration, in order to have influence over the reality of people’s lives in the province.

Serbian National Council in Kosovo official Dragan Velić said that he is against the elections, because there are no conditions for holding them.

Kosovo Serb official Rada Trajković said that the Serbian National Council had its list for participation in the election prepared, but that they were not able to submit it in time, which does not mean that the council will not support those who are working towards the well-being of the Serb community in Kosovo.
