President of the National Council for Hague Cooperation Rasim Ljajic says a large-scale search for Ratko Mladic was recently conducted in Novi Sad. However, Ljajic did not wish to speak about the ways in which the former Bosnian Serb military commander is hiding. "Hiding Mladic is not expensive" Ljajic told Belgrade daily Blic that he believes that the search for Mladic will be completed by the end of the year. “I said that I believe and hope that this will be finished by the end of the year, and I believe in that now as well,” he was quoted as saying. Asked who is hiding the war crimes fugitive and how much money his network of helpers has to work with, Ljajic said that the funds they have are not great. “I cannot say how much, but if they are hiding them in the way we believe they are, a lot of money is not needed,” Ljajic said. He reminded that Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will be in Belgrade on November 2-3. Asked about Holland’s stance regarding the possible unfreezing of an interim trade agreement between Serbia and the EU, Ljajic said that he believes that the country’s stance will not change because of its internal political situation. “We are not counting on Holland to change its stance. I personally believe that they will not change it because of internal political issues. They have elections in a year and do not want to have Srebrenica and The Hague as campaign issues again,” Ljajic said.
