Swedish Ambassador Kristen Bringeus says he is convinced the Serbian citizens with biometric passports will travel without visas starting January of next year. However, according to Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti, the diplomat added that Serbia still needs to "fulfill several items before we as EU presidency can announce the abolishment of the visa decision". Long road to EU, says Swedish ambassador Bringeus stated that his country is a very strong advocate of EU enlargement which sees Serbia "within the union of the future", but warned that this road is long and represents a huge job that needs to be done by the Serbian side. "I usually use the example of ecology, since 40 percent of conditions that your country must meet to join the EU concerns precisely protection of the environment. That's what's important, that the internal reform process in Serbia is done." He said that Sweden believes that Serbia is fully cooperating with the Hague Tribunal, and that now the Netherlands "should be convinced that this is so". Bringeus was also quoted as saying by the newspaper that in the long term, "the future of Kosovo is in the EU", and that once the whole region has joined, "the contact of borders will have lost its meaning completely".
