Even though Belgrade does not recognize the elections being organized by the Kosovo government, there are some Serb politicians who are urging participation. Serb MP in the Kosovo assembly and leader of the Independent Liberal Party Bojan Stojanovic said that Serbs would get their own local government in municipalities south of the Ibar River as well if they participate in the elections. He reminded that Serbs in Kosovo have not recognized Kosovo independence, but they will have a lot stronger local government in locations in which they win the elections. He said that Serbs participating in the elections would not be giving legitimacy to the government in Pristina. “The job regarding the status of Kosovo belongs to President Tadic and Minister Jeremic, and the duty of local politicians is to improve the standard of living for Serbs in Kosovo,” Stojanovic told B92.
