The Pride Parade has received the support of all “relevant parties that share European values,” the organizers have told daily Danas. Following the appeal from the European gay and lesbian social democratic organization Rainbow Rose to President Boris Tadic and his Democratic Party to show support for the Pride Parade, Tadic’s cabinet said that the president had already expressed his view on the issue with the signing of the Anti-Discrimination Law. Parties voice support for Pride Parade The Liberal Democratic Party says that many of its supporters will be taking to the streets to march in the parade, as will LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic and his family. LDP sources told Danas that the party championed the rights of all the participants in the Pride Parade and would offer them support in affirming their freedoms. “The event is important for us and we do not want to abuse it politically, but we want to identify with it politically by creating scope for the affirmation of freedom in society, which is very important for the LDP,” the party told Danas. G17 Plus claims that it also expressed its stance clearly by supporting the Anti-Discrimination Law. “It is very important for the week to end without violence, because everyone has the right to express their view as long as it does not endanger those who think differently. Equality is the basis of any normal democratic society, and we gave our stance by supporting the Anti-Discrimination Law,” G17 deputy leader Suzana Grubjesic told the daily. The Democratic Party of Serbia’s Slobodan Vuksanovic had a different stance on the issue. “Just like it would be stupid to gather a group of men with banners saying ‘We love women’, it’s just as stupid and pointless to parade around with posters that say “We love men,” he said. Socialist Party of Serbia leader and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced earlier that the police would ensure public order and security during the parade, which he said would be a major security risk. However, he said that no-one was allowed to threaten anyone else in Serbia and that the police would do their utmost to maintain law and order.
