DSS: Regions would lead to partitioning

The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) believes that Serbia's regionalization would amount to the country's partitioning. New elections, DSS press service chief Slobodan Vuksanovic said in a statement for Beta news agency, are a way to prevent this. This is attempted by those parties unable to cross the threshold [to enter parliament], so that in this way, they could come to power both in Vojvodina and the newly formed regions," he said. According to him, sale of state resources such as the electrical corporation EPS or agricultural land will make parliament irrelevant, since whoever has majority there will not in fact have power over Serbia's territory. "It is up to the resistance offered by all of the public to these plans, very reminiscent of the breakup of Yugoslavia, whether Serbia will survive, or whether only her name will remain," concluded Vuksanovic.
