Opposition DSS MP Dragan Šormaz reiterated on Friday that no DSS officials had purchased apartments below the market price.

Opposition DSS MP Dragan Sormaz reiterated on Friday that no DSS officials had purchased apartments below the market price. He added that during the cabinet of party leader Vojislav Kostunica all apartments were distributed in keeping with the laws and regulations of the time. "No DSS official bought state apartments" In his statement forwarded to Tanjug, Sormaz criticized yesterday's decision of the Serbian government to amend a decree on solving accommodation needs of elected, appointed and employed persons. Thus articles of a previous decree were annulled, that refer to a possibility of purchasing state-owned apartments. Sormaz stated that the government should make a selection instead of completely removing the possibility of apartment distribution. "How will policemen – who are underpaid despite the fact that they are carrying out hard and responsible work and we request them to fight crime and corruption – how will they be able to pay back housing loans in a legal way," asked Sormaz, adding that the government decision was only a marketing move.
