The man who fired the bullet that killed Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was three years prior to the assassination given an apartment by the state. From 1997 until 2007, 2,166 state-owned apartments were "given out", one of them – a 60 sq meter two-bedroom place – to Zvezdan Jovanovic. "State gave Djindjic killer apartment" Jovanovic, at the time a member of the State Security (RDB) JSO unit, got the apartment in 2000, before the fall of the Milosevic regime, Belgrade daily Blic writes. This came to light as PM Mirko Cvetkovic gave the cabinet's General Secretariat two weeks to clear up the affair concerning apartments given to government employees. Cvetkovic ordered a revision of all procedures. The secretariat is also to look into legal possibilities in order to correct irregularities that might have occurred in the process.
