There is still no coalition agreement for a majority in the Vozdovac assembly, even though the constitutive meeting is scheduled for Monday. The Democratic Party (DS) has reached an agreement with its partners on the city level regarding a joint approach at Monday’s meeting, but there is still no solution for finding one more official, which they need in order to have a majority in the assembly. Belgrade municipality edging closer to new elections “We talked to the DSS-NS-NP list, who our colleagues are in a coalition with in Mladenovac and Barajevo. Unfortunately, we heard from the media that Andreja Mladenovic said that they want to negotiate with SNS. I do not personally think that their officials agree with that decision, and I believe that there could be the support of 28 officials coming from this option,” DS official Branko Arsenijevic said. The deadline for constituting the local government in Vozdovac runs out on August 14, which is when the president of the local assembly must be elected by, and if not, new elections will be announced. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which received the most mandates in the elections, has not been able to form a majority either. SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic told B92 that it appears that elections will be the most realistic option. He said that the coalition of SPS-PUPS-JS is to blame most for this situation, because it did not accept the invitation of SNS to form the majority in Vozdovac. “SNS offered the coalitions around DSS and SPS to form the government, the way it was done in Zemun, but SPS made a different decision. I do not see how they will form a majority, even though I think that new elections are a poor solution, especially for the people,” Vucic said. United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovic told B92 that the failure to form a majority can only be attributed to the parties with the most seats in the local assembly, SNS and DS. “As far as the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition is concerned, we are not a problem for forming the government. We did not demand any special positions, though we did have a platform to talk about the authorities of the local self-administration, instead of leading global policies on the local level. Therefore, we will not be responsible if the government is not formed, rather those who have the most mandates will be responsible,” Markovic said. Elections were held on June 7 in the Belgrade municipalities of Vozdovac and Zemun, however, the assembly was constituted in Zemun on July 22 by the SPS, DSS-NS coalition and the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition.
