The govt’s biggest failings so far have been the lack of progress and the inability to break free of the Vojislav Kostunica system of government, says the LDP. On the first anniversary of the formation of the new government, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic said that the Cvetkovic administration was continuing the nationalist policies of the former premier, and was only partly keep pace with Europe. LDP reflects on government's first year in power Speaking at an LDP tribune titled “Reform Policy—A Response to the Crisis”, Jovanovic noted that the government, whose cornerstone was the Democratic Party (DS), had been formed to prevent a coalition between the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the Serb Radical Party (SRS). The LDP leader said that bi-elections had been held this year in a number of Serbian municipalities, where the party had made ground, though he acknowledged that the LDP’s message to the voters had not always got through. “We must use this summer to give the people responses to certain questions, not lick our wounds,” he said, adding that the LDP was an alternative not only to the government, but to the opposition too. According to Jovanovic, the LDP was not a product of hatred of Vojislav Kostunica, but of love for Zoran Djindjic. "Kostunica destroyed himself, he called elections to destroy the DS. He didn’t defend Kosovo, he was motivated by hatred,” the LDP leader surmised. Speaking of the party’s call to the Kosovo Serbs to take part in November’s provincial elections, he noted that President Boris Tadic had done the same thing five years ago, but had now changed his position.
