Police (MUP) Directorate chief Milorad Veljović says that police are giving their full contribution to the fight against crime, corruption and drug trafficking.

Police (MUP) Directorate chief Milorad Veljovic says that police are giving their full contribution to the fight against crime, corruption and drug trafficking. "I wish to tell citizens that they should have confidence in the police, because they are working in their interest. I wish to also say that no one in this country can be stronger than the state and the police, nor will the police allow anyone to be stronger than the state," he said. MUP directorate chief speaks ahead of Police Day Veljovic congratulated all MUP members ahead of their day, to be marked tomorrow, and stressed that he was "very pleased" with his colleagues' work, and that he is "proud of his police". "This does not mean that as head of the Police Directorate I will protect those working against the interests of the police. But I will give my utmost support to all those who fight for the success of the police, which means the success of the state." The citizens, Veljovic continued, will "very soon" be witnesses to the police giving its full contribution to preventing money laundering, through some operations primarily targeting financial crime. "For me, as the Police Directorate chief, it is most important for the police to enter a showdown with the leaders of organized financial crime. I think this is the greatest evil of the system. It's crime that is not overly visible to the public, but is exceptionally damaging to the state," said he. "Fir this reason, the setting up of the financial investigations unit was very important. Its work will be one of our priorities in the coming period, and its results a measure of the police's progress.
