Opposition Liberal-Democrats (LDP) say they will support the government "only if it shows that it can make itself efficient". The party main board heard on Sunday in Belgrade from leader Cedomir Jovanovic that such a government should have 12 ministries, and that he would make this suggestion officially. "Government efficiency or elections" "We must give the government a chance to implement its economic measures and in return we expect it to, in case the expected results do not materialize, be ready to return its mandate to the citizens and ask for elections," he said. Jovanovic stated that the government should set assistance to the economy, continued EU integrations, unblocking of the process of closer ties with NATO, better regional cooperation and readiness to implement its measures as its priorities. He said that the current situation in Serbia is "a direct result of a halt of reforms", and referred to the Djindjic assassination when he added that "on March 12, 2003, Serbia was stopped in an essential transition". The situation in the country now, Jovanovic believes, is "a logical epilogue to that state of affairs and lack of readiness for reforms".
