Opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica has called for early parliamentary elections to be held in Serbia. The former prime minister for two terms said in a statement in Belgrade on Saturday that the current government is not capable of handling the economic crisis. Kostunica wants elections, SRS agrees "The government is completely incapable of conducting an economic policy, and for this reason the Serbian economy is deteriorating with each passing day," said Kostunica. According to him, the government has neither the authority nor policy to stop the collapse of the economy, adding that a set of new measures proposed to this end will only aggravate the situation. Meantime, opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) deputy leader Dragan Todorovic says that extraordinary parliamentary elections would at this point burden the state budget, but conceded they would still be the best way out of the problems the country faces. "Elections are a burden and expense for the state. But it is better to solve the accumulated problems and political tensions in the polls than in other ways," said Todorovic.
