Monday is the last day that MPs will be working in the old parliament building in Belgrade. Since all the preparations are finished, they will be moving to the new, renovated Hall of the National Parliament at the Nikola Pasic Sq, which was restored to its 1936 appearance. Last day before parliament moves Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said that voting would be finished today, after which a new parliamentary session with 42 items on the agenda would begin. “When we adopt the agenda, I made a decision that after 24 hours, respecting the code of procedures, we will continue work in the Hall of the National Parliament, because all the technical conditions for transferring work their have been met,” Djukic-Dejanovic said. “We estimated that it would be good for the first point on the agenda to something related to national identity, such as the Law on the Coat-of-Arms, Flag and Anthem, or to begin our work on Tuesday with that point of the agenda,” she said. Djukic-Dejanovic believes that the MPS will be more serious and effective in the new work space. “This move, with its space and traditional of parliamentarianism, which is fairly long, will obligate MPs to be more civil and to work more effectively,” she was optimistic. “In any case, that is one bit of progress for the national parliament, which will work in a building which was planned for passing legislation in the fourth decade of last century,” the speaker said. On the agenda, there will also be a law on prohibiting the development, production, storage and use of chemical weapons and destroying such weapons, and MPs will debate six laws related to the environment.
