Vucitrn Municipal President Stojadin Tomic says that the Kosovo police are fining drivers with Serbian number plates. “The Kosovo police are fining certain Serbs driving cars with Serbian number plates EUR 210 or 15 days in prison, and are threatening to confiscate licenses issued by the Kosovo Mitrovica MUP office relocated in Kraljevo,” said Tomic. Kosovo police spokesman Besim Hoti said that the police were not issuing fines, but were reporting traffic offenders, and that it was the courts that set the penalties. “The Kosovo police are stopping vehicles only in cases of regular checks or when drivers commit motoring offenses. The police are not pulling vehicles over because of their number plaes, be they from Croatia, Serbia or any other country,” assured Hoti. Under UNMIK regulations, he stressed, licenses issued by MUP Serbia offices relocated outside Kosovo since 1999 are invalid.

Prilužje community leader Saša Andrić confirmed that the Kosovo police were fining drivers of cars bearing Serbian number plates.

“A number of Serbs have come to me in recent days to complain that the Kosovo police have been fining drivers of vehicles with Serbian plates,” said Andrić.
