Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Thursday that the political and security priority of the government was cooperation with neighbors. Opening the 6th Annual Ministerial Conference on Border Security Cooperation in South East Europe, he added that joint fight against organized and cross-border crime, as well as the exchange of experience, direct cooperation and support in the fulfillment of the conditions required for EU accession, were also among the priorities. "Fighting organized crime is priority" Dacic pointed to Serbia's long-term commitment to the building of neighborly relations and the stabilization of security in the region. Cooperation in border security issues is a field in which we can make decisive progress and influence on the cooperation between the countries of South East Europe, he assessed. Serbia, according to Dacic, has made huge progress in that field ever since the last conference that was held in Budva in February 2008. On Friday in Belgrade, the ministerial conference's participants signed a declaration in which they express readiness to fulfill the required standards for joining the European Union and the Schengen Agreement. The ministers underlined that border security, as one of the crucial conditions for full-fledged EU membership, was of vital importance for the citizens.
