The Kosovo Ministry is preparing a new strategy on sustainable survival and return to Kosovo, writes Belgrade daily Politika. The strategy, which will probably be proposed to the government in February, envisages that the funds allocated for Kosovo remain at the current level of approximately EUR 500mn a year. "New returns strategy in pipeline" The manner in which budget funds will be spent needs to be significantly modified, however. Under to the proposal, the money for such purposes should be used much more rationally—for specific development projects, and not for general needs, the daily reports. The government has suggested that municipalities be asked to draw up business plans in which they would specify what that could be done in terms of sustainable returns and survival of displaced persons. Projects are envisaged for the northern part of the province, central parts of Kosovo, Sar mountain and the Kosovo Pomoravlje region. Municipalities in central Serbia, home to big IDP populations, will be able to help tackle their problems by offering assistance for returns. The strategy under preparation is focused on the economic strengthening of all communities in Kosovo, and is being drawn up in line with international norms.
