The president's press office has been quick to refute rumors that Boris Tadic allegedly did not congratulate Barack Obama, stating that he did so on Nov. 5. Reacting to speculation doing the rounds on the internet, Tadic’s press office has pointed out that congratulations were sent immediately after the new U.S. president’s election triumph in November. Official: Tadic did congratulate Obama “It is worth pointing out that congratulations were conveyed on November 5, 2008, immediately after the publication of the results of the American elections. The message can easily be found on Google, on the president’s site, or on the site of any news agency.” The press office also quotes the contents of the message sent to Obama. “Your election has created the conditions for turning a new page in the long history of relations between Serbia and the U.S., during which we have been, for the most part, allies and friends. Serbia is determined to enhance bilateral relations with the U.S., promoting stability and the European future of the Balkans. I am certain that sharing the common values of justice, democracy and liberty, we can, as partners, achieve change that will make the world a better, fairer and safer place.” Tadic also added in his congratulatory message that he hoped that new U.S. policy would have more understanding for Serbia, which was defending its legitimate interests in a peaceful and diplomatic manner.
