G17 Plus whip Suzana Grubjesic expects a new Parliamentary Code of Procedure and Law on Parliament to be adopted in February. “I’ll insist on the Code of Procedure being adopted before parliament’s regular spring session, as that’s something that would go some way to streamlining parliament’s work and, from the point of view of my party, hasten the adoption of laws for European partnerships,“ Grubjesic told B92. G17 to insist on new Code of Procedure The G17 whip highlighted the need to repeal provisions from the Code that were open to abuse during sessions, such as citing Code violations and setting endless questions, which, she said, were more often than not MPs’ personal observations. “We’re the only ones in the region, and beyond, that don’t have a parliamentary law, while dozens of Code provisions run counter to the Constitution,“ she said, adding that the ruling coalition lacked a strategy and that the opposition was deftly exploiting this. In Grubjesic’s opinion, communication between the opposition and ruling parties existed, though it did not always result in an agreement, the consequences of which could best be seen during parliamentary sessions. Asked about the influence of businessman Predrag Rankovic Peconi in the adoption of an amendment to the Law on Excise, the G17 whip said that certain MPs had seen Peconi’s company’s CEO “dropping by” certain MP clubs on the day of the amendment’s adoption. “I personally didn’t see anyone, though I received this information just before the vote. I know the aforesaid gentleman didn’t visit the G17 or Democratic Party clubs, but, for the others, I don’t know,” she explained. Grubjesic added that TV coverage of parliamentary sessions was essential in order to keep the public informed about goings-on in parliament. Suzana Grubjesic (FoNet, arhive)
