Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said yesterday that his government had worked successfully last year, and ensured effective rule. “I’m pleased with the work of the government in the last year, but even more engagement is required this year,“ Thaci told a press conference to mark the end of the first year of his government's mandate. He informed journalists that he had submitted his report on the administration’s work to the president and the speaker. Thaci happy with govt.'s record According to the prime minister, the report gave an extensive and thorough illustration of everything the government had done, from building democratic institutions in Kosovo after the November 2007 elections, the declaration of independence, the adoption of the symbols of state and other numerous successes. “The report includes Kosovo’s successful diplomatic activity in close collaboration with Washington and the EU,“ he said. Speaking of energy as a key sector, Thaci said that in the eight years prior to his party taking office, energy had been associated with "darkness" in Kosovo, while in the year since his election, energy output had increased 30 percent. The greatest success, he said, had been laying 600 km of tarmac roads.
