Serbia is in the technical sense prepared to become EU candidate, but the political condition of cooperation with the Hague remains open, an official says. “If we are only looking at technical criteria, we are ready as a country to receive candidate status and even the EU says that, but we are blocked because in the opinion of Holland, cooperation with the Hague Tribunal has not been completed,” said advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Ksenija Milivojevic. Milivojevic said that there are several strategies missing for Serbia to get on the Schengen white visa list, adding that theses strategies will be adopted in the first half of this year. The drafts are in the final phases or have already been completed,” she said. Milivojevic continued that all passports must be exchanged for new ones by the end of the year, because a relaxed visa regime will not apply to the old passports. She said that in order to achieve European integration, Serbia needs to adopt 51 laws, of which nine were passed in parliament last year and 18 were sent to MPs, while there are 24 more that are being completed and must be sent to the government. Asked about the failed predictions of Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic regarding EU integration, Milivojevic said that the job of European integrations is a difficult one, “because it does not always depend on us, and it is impossible to give predictions that are 100 percent correct.”
