Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic met on Friday with the Spanish and Syrian ambassadors to Serbia. Spanish Ambassador Inigo de Palacio Espana said that his country supports Serbia's endeavors for resolving the Kosovo issue and for EU integration. "Spain can only accept an agreement on future Kosovo status between Belgrade and Pristina. If such an agreement is not possible, international law and UN Security Council resolutions must be respected," he said. Djukic-Dejanovic and Palacio Espana pointed to great potentials for more Spanish investments in Serbia and to the need for fostering parliamentary cooperation, the parliament press service said. Also on Friday in Belgrade, the speaker met with Syrian Ambassador Majed Shadoud, who said that his country upholds peace, non-interference in other states' affairs, international law and UN Security Council decisions, and consequently does not recognize the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence. Serbia appreciates Syria's stand of support to its territorial integrity and to its endeavors to resolve the Kosovo issue in keeping with international law, Djukic Dejanovic said. "Syria is a very influential country in the Arab world," she added. The talk focused on fostering of inter-parliamentary ties, and Shadoud invited Djukic-Dejanovic to visit his country.
