The government has appointed former Yugoslav President and SPS member Zoran Lilic as chairman of Serbian Roads, daily Vecernje Novosti reports. The paper states that this position was delegated to the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) during the distribution of places in the public companies, and that Lilic’s name was put forward by Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic. "Ex-Yugoslav president to head Serbian Roads" Lilic took over as president of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from Dobrica Cosic in 1992 and retained the position until 1997, when he was the SPS’s candidate for president of Serbia. After losing out to Vojislav Seselj in the second round of the presidential ballot, he became deputy prime minister of the Federal government led by Momir Bulatovic. His last position in public office was that of adviser to Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, to which he was appointed in 1999.
