Pristina daily Ekspres writes that the Kosovo government can rightfully claim to have scored a victory at Wednesday’s UN Security Council session. However, it also states that there are reasons for Pristina to be dissatisfied with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s report. Pristina daily: Kosovo victory in UN Quoting unnamed sources in New York, Ekspres claims that Ban’s report, when presented to all sides for consultations, elicited a strong reaction from Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who rejected the term “temporary solution.” It took pressure from several major European governments to convince President Boris Tadic to tell Jeremic to approve the process, Ekpres said. According to the same source, Ban’s report stemmed from numerous proposals put forward by the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy, who demanded that the report should include solutions that would not cause long-term problems for Pristina. In Ekspres’s view, Ban’s report confirms that Kosovo is a single customs region and that this is a result of direct pressure from Pristina and the five Western countries. As far as the police force is concerned, the report states that the international commissioner will initiate the appointment of a Serb high officer, but that this will be carried out in line with the law and respecting the existing chain of command, which Pristina recommended during the status talks in Vienna last year, Ekspres states.
