President of the U.S. National Endowment for Democracy Carl Gerschman says U.S. President-elect Barack Obama will maintain the U.S. Kosovo policy. The president of the U.S. National Endowment for Democracy told his audience in Belgrade on Wednesday that Obama would "also try to find a lasting solution for Kosovo". "Obama will continue U.S. Kosovo policy" "Obama will keep the continuity of the policy on Kosovo, but will also help solve this issue once and for all," Gerschman said at a lecture on human rights and democracy organized on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights NGO. Gerschman, a former senior advisor of the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said that Kosovo was a difficult issue, but that the United States and its European partners were working together to find a solution that would rest on a lasting basis. Serbia and the European Union should cooperate on a wider basis in order to solve all issues regarding Kosovo, Gerschman advised. Speaking about Serbia's efforts to join the European Union, Gerschman said that the continuation of this process and consolidation of democracy in the country would enormously benefit the region and all of Europe.
