Podgorica will begin procedures to appoint a new ambassador to Belgrade in the next few days, while Skopje has already begun that process, writes daily Danas. The daily reports that the Macedonian Foreign Ministry has already begun considering potential candidates for its new ambassador to Belgrade. "Macedonia, Montenegro to name new ambassadors" Miodrag Vukovic, a senior official in Montenegro’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), told the daily that in the next few days Montenegro’s Foreign Minister Milan Rocen would launch the procedure of naming candidates for the new ambassador to Belgrade. He said that the process would not take long. Predrag Sekulic, the DPS political director, has been touted as a potential candidate, but he dismissed the speculation in another Belgrade daily, Vecernje Novosti. Montenegro’s Foreign Ministry told the daily that the new ambassador would be carefully chosen. "We need to bear in mind the personality issues, so as to avoid any rejection by the host-state,” the daily quoted its Montenegrin diplomatic source as saying. At the weekend Serbian President Boris Tadic said that Macedonia and Montenegro would propose their new ambassadors, which Serbia would then consider before taking a final decision on their appointment. Macedonia is awaiting Serbia’s official position. The Macedonian Foreign Ministry will summon Serbian ambassador to Skopje Zoran Popovic to present Serbia’s official position regarding the return of a Macedonian ambassador to Belgrade. Quoting ministry sources, Skopje daily Vecer writes that the Serbian president’s invitation to Macedonia to appoint a new ambassador should be conducted via diplomatic channels, whereby Serbia would give clear signals that it had changed its “rash” decision to expel former Macedonian Ambassador to Belgrade Aleksandar Vasilevski. Serbia expelled both the Montenegrin and Macedonian ambassadors to Belgrade after the two countries recognized Kosovo’s unilateral independence, a day after the UN General Assembly’s decision that the International Court of Justice should give its advisory opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia.
