Five amendments to draft statute

The Vojvodina Executive Council has adopted five amendments to the Vojvodina draft Statute and submitted it to the provincial assembly for further debate. One of the amendments refers to Article 35 of the draft Statute which states that every local self-government unit elects at least one councilor. Five amendments to draft statute The amendment states that the Assembly has 120 councilors who are chosen at direct elections via secret ballot. According to a statement, this amendment has been adopted to render the draft Statute more rational because it is better to solve the issue of self-government units’ representation in the assembly via a decision by the assembly itself. The issue of the Vojvodina Arts and Sciences Academy (VANU) is also amended in Article 17 of the draft. The draft Statute stipulates that VANU is founded by the Vojvodina Assembly, which determines its role, its scope, and its method of operation. One of the amendments states that “in accordance with the Serbian Constitution, it (VANU) should cooperate in work to determine regional policy in Serbia, and adopt and implement documents that define such policy,” while another states that in order to bring Vojvodina’s policy closer to EUROSTAT standards, “the provincial bodies should follow and assess the policy of regional development in Vojvodina, and gather and process statistical data that is in Vojvodina’s interests.” The Executive Council’s draft also includes an amendment to the Draft’s preamble. The Vojvodina assembly will convene on October 14 to consider the draft Statute.
