Holland judges Serbian Hague cooperation on its own information, as well as that of its partners and the chief prosecutor. “Holland acknowledges that Serbia has taken positive steps in the last few months, but they’re only a start. To finish that job, the remaining fugitives have to be extradited to the Tribunal,” Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen told daily Blic. Dutch FM discusses Serbian cooperation At the last meeting of EU foreign ministers, Holland, together with Belgium, were the only two EU members to oppose unfreezing of the Interim Agreement with Serbia. Verhagen said that his country did not oppose Serbian EU membership, but that they had always made it clear in no uncertain terms that full cooperation with the Hague remained a condition for further steps in that direction. The minister reiterated that earlier this year, all the EU foreign ministers had agreed that only if this were accomplished could the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) be ratified and the interim agreement with Serbia be implemented. He said that since the war, Serbia had taken big steps towards democratization, and that the EU was willing to welcome Serbia into the European family, and that he supported that goal. “Holland wants to work together with Serbia and is ready to support you. We’ve already donated over EUR 50mn for Serbia in the form of aid in the spheres of the economy, the rule of law, media, culture, health care, ecology, agriculture, defense. And Holland has given even more via EU funds that were put at Serbia’s disposal,” he explained. Holland hopes that the positive steps taken by Serbia (in cooperation with the Hague) will continue, and that this will bring new results in the near future, said Verhagen.
